WSJ reported on May 8 that Apple and Intel have reached a preliminary agreement for Intel to manufacture chips powering Apple devices, after more than a year of intensive talks. Intel stock surged 15% on the news. The deal would diversify Apple's chip manufacturing away from TSMC dependency and give Intel a major anchor customer for its foundry business as it tries to catch up in advanced process nodes. Production could begin as early as 2027 for M-class Mac and iPad chips.
