AWS MCP Server Reaches General Availability: AI Agents Get IAM-Guarded Access to Any AWS API Through Single Tool
AWS announced general availability of the AWS MCP Server on May 6, giving AI coding agents secure, auditable access to every AWS service through the Model Context Protocol. Agents can now call any AWS API through a single tool — including file uploads and long-running operations — with sandboxed Python script execution for multi-step workflows. New GA features include IAM context keys for fine-grained access policies and unauthenticated documentation retrieval. Available at no additional charge (pay only for AWS resources consumed). For builders deploying agents in AWS environments, this eliminates the gap between 'agent writes code' and 'agent operates infrastructure.'
