Musk Loses OpenAI Trial — Jury Rules Claims Filed Too Late, Vows Appeal
A federal jury in Oakland ruled against Elon Musk on May 18, finding his breach-of-charitable-trust claims against OpenAI fell outside the three-year statute of limitations after less than two hours of deliberation. The jury never reached the merits of whether OpenAI violated its nonprofit charter. Musk called it a 'calendar technicality' and vowed to appeal to the 9th Circuit, while OpenAI's attorney said Musk was 'sitting on claims to use them as a weapon of a competitor who can't compete.'
