Moonshot AI Ships Kimi Code CLI — an MIT-Licensed TypeScript Terminal Agent With Isolated Subagents
On June 6, 2026, Moonshot AI released Kimi Code CLI (MoonshotAI/kimi-code), an open-source, MIT-licensed terminal coding agent written in TypeScript and distributed via npm, succeeding the older kimi-cli. It ships built-in coder, explore, and plan subagents that run in isolated contexts, with MCP servers configured conversationally via /mcp-config. It works out of the box with Kimi models but supports other compatible providers, making it a direct open competitor to Claude Code and Codex CLI.
