Microsoft Introduces 'Autopilots' Agent Category and 'Scout,' an Always-On Desktop Agent With Its Own Identity

At Build 2026 (June 2), Microsoft unveiled Autopilots — always-on agents that hold their own identity and act on a user's behalf — with Microsoft Scout as the first, shipping as a desktop app for Windows 11+ and macOS 12+. Microsoft also said Hosted Agents in Foundry Agent Service reach GA by end of June with hypervisor-isolated environments, per-agent Entra ID, and built-in content safety. The moves push agent identity and runtime isolation into first-class platform primitives rather than developer add-ons.
