OpenShot 4.0 ships local ML subject masking and ComfyUI audio templates in an open-source editor
OpenShot 4.0 was released on 2026-08-30 after roughly a year of work, porting the UI from Qt5 to Qt6 with a redesigned native timeline, and adding screen, webcam, microphone and system audio recording directly into a project. The AI-relevant parts run locally: subject isolation via ML masking, a YOLO model picker for the object detection filter with YOLOv5 setup, and new ComfyUI templates for audio denoising, repair and voice enhancement. The post hit 570 points on Hacker News on 2026-08-31, and shipping local model inference inside a general-purpose FOSS editor rather than as a cloud add-on is the notable choice.
