Astra read an Acer BIOS binary and fixed a fan curve four months of GPT-5.4 through 5.6 and Fable 5 could not

An r/OpenAI post at 256 upvotes describes a Linux-on-Acer aggressive fan curve the author had attacked since May with GPT-5.4, 5.5, 5.6 Sol and Fable 5, with none of the conventional routes (sensors, fan control utilities, ACPI, updating the Acer kmod) working. Given access to memory files and a copy of the BIOS binary from Acer, Astra solved it in about five minutes. It is a single anecdote, but it is the same capability the SRE-Bench binary-reverse-engineering discussion is arguing about, arriving as a concrete task rather than a score.
