Hassabis backs the slowdown, and his own July proposal is the one with actual teeth
Hassabis said "Dario is right to call today for slowing the pace of frontier development so that safety can keep up, and it is good to see a consensus starting to build on this across the industry," carried by ANI and the Tribune on September 13. Worth pairing with what he proposed on July 14: a federally overseen, industry-funded standards body modeled on FINRA that would test frontier-class models for up to 30 days before release, voluntary first and then a condition of US deployment, with explicit power to coordinate a slowdown. That version has a mechanism and a number; Amodei's essay a day earlier does not, and the r/singularity thread on Hassabis (106 upvotes) largely missed the July precedent.
