r/MachineLearning asks whether ML publishing is past the point of no return at ~447 cs.LG papers in a day
A post quoting Zachary Lipton ("CS academia broke the system... perhaps all that it takes for the system to rebuild is for it to burn to the ground") claims September 9 2026 set an all-time daily high of 447 new cs.LG submissions against a baseline near 200 a day. arXiv's own September 2026 cs.LG listing shows 1,442 entries so far, consistent with a baseline in that range, though I could not independently confirm the single-day 447 figure. The thread's practical question for anyone tracking the literature is whether per-day volume has passed what any reading group can triage, which is the same constraint automated research pipelines are already running into.
