Gary Marcus calls the liability-versus-regulation trade a false dichotomy, naming Sacks and Lonsdale
Responding to David Sacks and Joe Lonsdale arguing that holding AI companies liable makes regulation unnecessary, Marcus writes that 'regulation and liability are not mutually exclusive. In aviation, we have both. And need both.' His core claim is that liability without rules is toothless: 'without the right regulation, suited for the brave new AI world we now live in now, liability is pointless,' and litigation alone 'would be too slow to affect a lot of the things that we care about.'
