Crusoe raises $3.9B at a $30.9B valuation for truckable modular AI data centers
Announced 17 September, Crusoe's Series F was co-led by Atreides Management, Mubadala Capital and Valor Equity Partners, with Founders Fund, GIC, Nvidia, Qatar Investment Authority, Radical Ventures and TPG participating. The money funds existing projects including the Abilene, Texas installation serving OpenAI, plus expansion of Spark, its line of small modular AI factories that ship by truck and connect to large power sources almost anywhere, manufactured in-house to avoid large construction crews. No per-unit capacity figures were disclosed. The interesting bet is siting: if compute can be trucked to the power rather than transmission built to the compute, the grid interconnect queue stops being the binding constraint on buildout.
