openai/tunnel-client is the customer-run half of OpenAI's Secure MCP Tunnel, letting a private or localhost MCP server reach ChatGPT, Codex, the Responses API and Agent Builder without exposing it publicly. It is a small Go repo at 422 stars, 85 forks and 11 open issues, created 2025-12-10, with v0.0.14 tagged 2026-09-01 and a push this morning. The pre-1.0 version numbering and daily commits say this is still moving, but it is the sanctioned path for local MCP servers rather than a community workaround.
