CROSS-CATEGORY: Three Vendors in Three Days Redefined the Seat as a Credit Allowance Rather Than Killing It
GitLab attached 12 credits to a Premium seat and 24 to an Ultimate seat with enforceable per-user caps (September 17), HubSpot began piloting a seats-and-credits model in the Nordics and Benelux and told analysts seats and credits are complementary layers rather than a replacement (September 17), and HubSpot's Agent Hub priced each agent action separately while leaving the assistant free. The predicted "seats are dead, outcomes win" transition is not what shipped this week. What shipped is a hybrid where the seat survives as the entitlement envelope and the credit meters the agent inside it, which means the buying committee and the contract shape stay intact while the variable cost moves to a line no procurement team has a baseline for.
