Xavier et al. implement MCP adapters that translate Modbus, MQTT/Sparkplug B, and OPC UA industrial protocols into discoverable AI tools while maintaining safety controls. The mock-first evaluation approach validates adapter behavior locally before connecting to plant equipment. Across 870 test runs spanning normal, fault-injected, stress, and recovery scenarios, all three protocol adapters demonstrated same-session recovery.
