Microsoft's Suleyman Pivots to 'Superintelligence' After Renegotiating OpenAI Contract
After a mid-March restructuring, Microsoft CEO of AI Mustafa Suleyman is shifting focus entirely to building frontier-scale models, aiming for 'AI self-sufficiency for Microsoft over the next two or three years.' Microsoft renegotiated its OpenAI contract for more freedom to develop its own superintelligence infrastructure. The MAI Superintelligence team debuted MAI-Transcribe-1, a 25-language transcription model at half the GPU cost of SOTA, with immediate commercial availability.
