GitHub Copilot CLI Reaches General Availability: Plan Mode and Autopilot Mode Bring Agentic Coding to the Terminal with Multi-Model Support
GitHub Copilot CLI is now generally available for all Copilot subscribers, bringing agentic coding directly to Bash, Zsh, and PowerShell. Plan Mode analyzes requests, asks clarifying questions, and builds structured implementation plans before writing code — you review and approve before execution. Autopilot Mode lets Copilot work fully autonomously: executing tools, running commands, and iterating without stopping for approval. Model selection includes Claude Opus 4.6, Claude Sonnet 4.6, GPT-5.3-Codex, and Gemini 3 Pro. This positions it as a direct competitor to Claude Code's terminal-native workflow.
