Jacquard CPO Reframes SaaSpocalypse: 'AI Isn't Killing SaaS — It's Removing the Need for Humans to Use It'
Jacquard CPO Toby Coulthard published a piece in The Drum arguing that SaaS isn't dying — the human need to interact with it is. The entire SaaS model was built around a constraint (humans must operate software) that no longer holds. When AI agents become the primary users of software, the per-seat model collapses but the underlying platform value doesn't. For builders: this reframe matters because it distinguishes which SaaS companies survive (platforms agents consume) from which die (tools built for human workflows). The API-first, agent-consumable SaaS companies are the ones with moats.
