First Systematic Adversarial Study of Millimeter-Wave Security Imaging Under Waveform-Domain Attacks

Dorje et al. present the first comprehensive adversarial robustness study of near-field mmWave imaging systems used in airport passenger screening. Waveform-domain attacks — injecting adversarial perturbations into the RF signal rather than the reconstructed image — can reliably evade threat detection while remaining physically realizable. The work exposes a previously unexplored attack surface in safety-critical infrastructure that processes millions of scans daily.
