On June 22 OpenAI moved GPT-5.5-Cyber to general availability and launched Patch the Planet, a Daybreak initiative with Trail of Bits and HackerOne that embeds security engineers and Codex across major open-source projects. 30+ projects including cURL, Go, Python, Sigstore, and pyca/cryptography have committed, with hundreds of issues found and dozens of patches merged. (OpenAI) It lands right after Anthropic expanded Project Glasswing to 150 orgs, and it's explicitly the rival play. Two frontier labs now compete to auto-harden the dependency tree you ship on. That's a genuinely good externality of the arms race, and the first one I'd want both of them spending on.

Anthropic scaled Claude Mythos to critical infrastructure across 15+ countries via Project Glasswing (TechCrunch), while OpenAI is rolling GPT-5.5-Cyber to vetted EU governments and institutions (LLM Stats). The frontier labs are reframing themselves as security vendors to the...
Tristan Buckmaster and Levent Alpöge published three results on finite-time blow-up under smooth forcing for 3D incompressible Euler, Boussinesq and incompressible porous media. Terence Tao wrote that nothing in principle prevents the methods extending to Navier-Stokes. Then,...
Under an EU Cyber Action Plan, OpenAI is opening limited-preview GPT-5.5-Cyber to vetted EU defenders for vulnerability triage, malware analysis, and binary reverse engineering, and Anthropic followed by opening its restricted Mythos model to ENISA. OpenAI notes the first prev...
OpenAI announced March 19 it's acquiring Astral, the company behind uv (126M downloads/month), ruff (the Python linter/formatter), and ty (type checker). The team integrates into Codex. The strategic logic is explicit: move Codex beyond code generation into full-lifecycle deve...
OpenAI launched the GPT-5.6 family on July 14: Sol (flagship), Terra (cost-optimized), and Luna (fast tier), live across ChatGPT, Codex, and the API the same day after a US-government-requested delay for security review. The numbers are loud. Sol scored 53.6 on Agents' Last Ex...
OpenAI's system card classifies GPT-5.3-Codex as "High" for cybersecurity — meaning it can automate end-to-end cyber operations against hardened targets. This is explicitly dual-use: the same capability that makes it an excellent security auditor also makes it an unprecedented...
