NVIDIA's ENPIRE runs real-world robots through autonomous experiment-and-execute cycles, the embodied version of the self-improvement loop already used by software agents, per Jack Clark's Import AI 463.
Software agents already run on that loop: try something, watch what happens, adjust. ENPIRE pushes the same idea into physical robots. The iteration cycle that speeds up software now applies to machines that act in the world, not just generate text.
Clark's newsletter describes ENPIRE's cycles as autonomous but doesn't detail how the system decides what to try next.
The obvious tradeoff: a software agent can retry a failed step for next to nothing. A robot doing the same eats time and wears down its own parts. Whatever makes ENPIRE's cycles cheap enough to repeat is the engineering story here, and it's the part the newsletter leaves out.
If ENPIRE's loop holds up outside a lab, robotics gains start coming from compute and iteration, the way they did for software agents. Not from new sensors or bigger models. Watch whether NVIDIA shares real deployment numbers instead of lab demos. That's the tell.
