Each session gets its own checkout now, so simultaneous Copilot, Claude and Codex runs won't collide in the same working directory.
Why now: GitHub published this changelog on July 30, 2026, covering VS Code Copilot versions v1.127 through v1.131.
GitHub isolated agent sessions in VS Code's July release, giving Copilot, Claude and Codex each their own checkout, per the changelog.
Running multiple agent sessions against one directory risks them stepping on each other's edits. Isolated checkouts remove that risk for Copilot, Claude and Codex alike.
GitHub had already isolated Copilot sessions this way; the July update extends the same isolation to Claude and Codex sessions, per the changelog.
The Agents window was redesigned too, putting code review and chat side by side.
Subagent tracking now shows which model each subagent runs, how long it's taking and which tool calls are active.
A single agent session can now hold multiple chats, each with its own history, title and model. Chats can also fork off a peer chat instead of starting over.
Terminal commands can now run straight from chat with a ! prefix. That skips switching out to the terminal panel entirely.

bradautomates/claude-video (v0.2.0, July 1) lets agents download, frame-extract, and transcribe any video via yt-dlp, ffmpeg, and Whisper, then hand it to Claude's multimodal Read (GitHub). It ships as an Agent Skill usable across 50+ agents: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini...
Released July 16, the agent host runs coding agents (Copilot, Claude, Codex) in their own process via a new Agent Host Protocol, so a session lives independently and renders across multiple windows. Agents can list sessions, read conversations, spawn sub-task sessions, and sen...
elie222/rakazo appeared Aug 13, Apache-2.0, TypeScript, explicitly bring-your-own model and sandbox (tested against Docker, E2B, Daytona) with the Pi runtime underneath and OpenRouter, Codex, Copilot, or SuperGrok device-code sign-in instead of a mandatory API key. Each bot ge...
diegosouzapw/OmniRoute added 1,343 stars on July 20, a single MIT-licensed gateway across 268+ providers (50+ free) and 500+ models including Claude, GPT, Gemini, Kimi K3, GLM and DeepSeek, wired for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Cline and Copilot. Quota-aware automatic fallback...
July 22's board is plumbing, not apps: Kastra (199 votes) sells runtime authorization for Claude, Cursor, Codex, and OpenClaw with policy enforcement against prompt injection and unauthorized tool calls, while box (183 votes) sells Ubuntu VMs with SSH for agents at $0.036/hr (...
Anthropic invented a file convention. It's now shipping GA inside a competitor's product. Nobody wrote a spec, nobody held a standards meeting, it just happened. On July 29, GitHub made agent skills and MCP server support generally available in Copilot code review for all Pro,...
