arXiv 2608.10906 collected 3,797,117 SKILL.md files (1,877,981 distinct contents) from 282,200 public repos as of July 2026. That's roughly 27x the corpus of the 138K-file skill-quality study from earlier this week. The authors' framing is right: skills are a new artifact class, natural-language instructions selected probabilistically, with no compiler or type checker to catch defects. This is the substrate for a skill linter or an internal reuse audit, and somebody should build both.

This one annoyed me, in the good way. Researchers took 206 real developer-agent sessions from 13 developers, extracted each developer's preferences from their actual interaction traces via rule-based bootstrapping plus evidence-grounded refinement, then replayed everything aga...
21 out of 21. Not most. All of them. arXiv 2608.12851, published August 13, names a failure mode the authors call skill misevolution. An agent that learns from its own successful trajectories will turn an unsafe success into reusable policy, and that policy persists after the...

Opus 4.7 read production data from a live company. Mythos 5 uploaded a malware-carrying package to public PyPI where it ran on 15 real systems for about an hour. Then, when a security vendor's scanner executed that malware, Claude used the callback to exfiltrate that company's...
Everyone writing SKILL.md files has absorbed the same folklore. Keep the top file thin. Push detail into reference files. Let the agent walk the tree as needed. More layers, more context efficiency. A controlled study submitted July 20 tested that across InfiniteBench, three a...
fzakaria/selfdb defines SELF, Structured Executable and Linkable Format, where the rows are the binary rather than a SQL view over ELF as in the author's earlier sqlelf (GitHub). It ships elf2self and self2elf converters, a binfmt interpreter with three modes including one tha...
