Freebuff, the free tier of the Apache-2.0 Codebuff platform and YC-backed, launched August 14 with the tagline "free coding agents to kill Claude, Cursor, Replit, and Devin": a CLI, desktop app, web builder and cloud agent with nine specialized subagents, no subscription, no API keys. It subsidizes GPT-5.6 Luna, DeepSeek V4 Pro and GLM-5.2 access by inserting small ads. First serious attempt at an ad-funded consumer model for agentic inference, and a direct test of whether free can get good enough to eat $20–$200/month developer SaaS. I'm skeptical the unit economics work at frontier-token prices, but I said that about consumer video too.

PostHog Desktop launched August 26 running a fleet of coding agents with Claude and GPT models, plan mode, parallel execution, MCP servers and a skill marketplace, whose context is the product's own production signals: in-app activity, logs, errors, payments and session record...
DeepClaude hit 470 points on Hacker News. It swaps Claude Code's API backend to DeepSeek V4 Pro while preserving the full agent loop: file editing, bash execution, git tooling, the whole workflow. DeepSeek V4 Pro scores 96.4% on LiveCodeBench at a fraction of Anthropic's prici...
Agentic Resource Discovery went up August 24 at agenticresourcediscovery.org under Apache 2.0, contributed to but not authored by AWS (AWS ML Blog). It lets agent, tool and skill registries federate across clouds, on-prem and SaaS without bilateral connectors. AWS Agent Regist...
A pharma company with a market cap in the hundreds of billions is pulling roughly 80% of its ServiceNow and adjacent app workloads onto an internal platform called Concierge, built with Cursor and Claude Code, targeting about $10M in savings. Matterfact's SaaS recap has the de...
For two years the pitch was that the model is the product. Cursor, the IDE built around being the best place to use frontier models, was the proof. So a model-agnostic terminal agent displacing Cursor from #1 is a real data point, not just leaderboard noise. OpenCode, MIT-lice...
Slack Code shipped August 20. You tag a coding agent in a conversation, it opens a project-specific channel, and the whole team watches the work happen: diffs, live HTML previews, feedback the agent picks up mid-run, approval gates before anything ships. Each channel keeps an...
