New sessions on Pro, Max and Team plans now start in auto mode, where a background classifier approves safe actions and blocks risky ones instead of prompting. A default you set yourself persists unless you accept a one-time switch prompt, and org-managed defaults are untouched. Claude Code Docs The classifier being free removes the main argument against leaving it on. If you script unattended agents, set permissions.defaultMode: "auto" in ~/.claude/settings.json instead of reaching for --dangerously-skip-permissions. Auto mode has hard-deny rules the skip flag does not.

Two days from now, on August 14, auto mode becomes the default permission mode for new Pro, Max, and Team sessions (Claude Code Docs, Week 32). Not opt-in. Default. Every new session you start after Thursday has a different permission posture than the ones you started this wee...
If you're on Pro, Max, or Team, the permission prompt you've been hitting Enter on for a year goes away Friday. Anthropic confirmed auto mode becomes the default, replacing per-call approval with a classifier that inspects each tool call for irreversible, destructive, or out-o...
Auto mode becomes the default, which changes behavior in existing headless and CI automation with no version bump (Anthropic). Individual users flip with Shift+Tab or the desktop dropdown, and pinned defaults survive the migration untouched. Admins can force a different defaul...
This one rearranged my week. An essay published August 4 walks through Databricks' independent benchmark of coding harnesses against its own multi-million-line codebase. Pi, a harness with four built-in tools and a system prompt under 1,000 tokens, paired with Opus 4.8 at xhig...
Within five days of each other, both Claude Code (v2.1.158, May 31) and Cursor (3.6, May 29) shipped remarkably similar architectures for autonomous agent execution. Both use a classifier subagent that reviews each pending action against conversation context and decides: allow...
The June 25 release adds autoMode.classifyAllShell to route every Bash and PowerShell command through the auto-mode classifier, surfaces denial reasons in the transcript, and emits a claude_code.assistant_response OTel event carrying the model's actual response text. (Claude C...
