Claude Code Ships Auto-Resume for Usage Limits

Claude Code desktop started resuming a stalled session the moment its usage-limit window reset, per Anthropic's @ClaudeDevs account on August 14. Anyone running long sessions against the 5-hour rolling limit no longer needs an alarm to hit retry when the window reopens.

On r/ClaudeAI, one post ranked the update above Anthropic's Fable model launch, framing the auto-continue checkbox as more valuable than a new model. The post, with 134 upvotes, calls it: "the real flagship feature is not having to set a 4:20 AM alarm just to hit try again." The poster adds a caveat: it appears to work only on a focused session.

Nothing about the limits changed. The 5-hour rolling window and the weekly compute cap stay exactly where they were. The checkbox smooths the wait, it doesn't shorten it.

That gap is the real story. A UX fix beat a new model launch in the vote count. That says builders are more starved for relief from usage limits than hungry for new capability. Watch whether Anthropic treats that as pressure to raise the caps, or keeps limits fixed and ships more scheduling conveniences instead.
