Moxie's servers went dark for good in June, the second time its maker collapsed since 2024, per MIT Technology Review. The clinical case for the robot was thin from the start. A study by Brian Scassellati found gains from using Moxie disappeared within 30 days of taking it away.
Embodied built the 15-inch robot as a social-skills companion for autistic kids, then collapsed in 2024. An investor revived the company in 2025, but that revival failed too, leaving families to lose Moxie a second time. A 2024 literature review found most studies of the device lacked significant clinical evidence, and psychologist Zachary Warren said, "we haven't really found big effects."
