The release also adds a Python SDK migration command, clearer usage-limit messages, and a WebFetch caching fix.
Why now: This appears in the Claude Code release notes current as of August 24, 2026.
Claude Code's cost estimates surface a 1.1x premium for inference locked to US infrastructure, per the project's v2.1.241 release notes.
For anyone running Claude Code under a US-only inference requirement, the cost estimate now reflects that surcharge rather than leaving it out.
The same release adds /claude-api upgrade, a command that migrates Python projects off the 0.x anthropic package and onto 1.x. Usage-limit warnings also got more specific. They now say whether it's the session limit or the weekly limit resetting.
The less-visible fix is in WebFetch. The tool documents a 15-minute cache window for fetched pages, but it was retaining expired content for the entire session instead. Any agent pulling live docs, pricing pages, or changelogs through WebFetch could have been reading pages far older than 15 minutes without knowing it.
That bug likely cost more real work than the pricing change will. A stale page gives no sign it's stale; a cost estimate that's off by 1.1x is at least visible on the invoice.
