Four coding-agent tools reached GitHub in six days, and none of them calls a vendor API. Anyone building agent observability can skip vendor sign-off entirely, using the session logs Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI already write to disk. Three of the four tools already total 676 stars combined.
tokentab appeared on GitHub September 7 with 481 stars, pulling cost data from Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI session logs.
tracecrate followed on September 10 with 105 stars. It's a local-first workbench that inspects Claude Code, Codex and OTLP traces and compares runs, with no backend and no keys.
ai-data-extractor arrived September 11 with 90 stars, pulling chat history across Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Aider and Cline. Geiger, posted September 6, inventories the agents, MCP servers and plugins installed on a machine.
Each tool treats the on-disk JSONL as its only data source, with no sign-in step. None of the four repos says what happens if Anthropic, OpenAI or Google changes that format tomorrow. They're reading a file that was never built as a public interface.
