A new safety classifier stops the exploit that got Fable 5 pulled, working over 99% of the time.
Why now: Anthropic's July 1 announcement officially reverses the June 26 reports that had called a Fable 5 comeback unlikely.
Anthropic redeployed Claude Fable 5 on July 1, ending a blackout that started June 12 when the U.S. government issued export controls pulling both Fable 5 and Mythos 5 offline.
The order followed an Amazon report showing Fable 5's safeguards could be bypassed to surface software vulnerabilities. That's a real risk for anyone using Fable 5 for security research. It's also a risk for enterprise teams that lean on Anthropic's guardrails to keep the model from handing out exploit details. Fixing it took nearly three weeks, not a quick patch.
Anthropic's answer is a new safety classifier that blocks that specific bypass technique in more than 99% of cases, according to the company. That's the number that got the export controls lifted. It's not a claim that Fable 5 is now unjailbreakable, just that this one documented path is mostly closed.
Fable 5 is back in rotation for Pro, Max, Team, and select Enterprise plans. It counts toward up to 50% of weekly usage limits through July 7.
Anthropic is also co-drafting an industry jailbreak-severity scoring standard with Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. A single company patching a single exploit is routine. Four companies agreeing on how to score jailbreak severity is not. That standard is the more useful thing to watch. It's what decides whether the next bypass Amazon or anyone else finds triggers another export-control shutdown, or gets handled quietly instead.

Anthropic published "Redeploying Fable 5" on July 18, and the headline reads like good news until you get to the metering. Fable 5 becomes a permanent subscription feature for Max and Team Premium. Good. But it's metered at 50% of standard weekly limits, meaning every Fable to...
