Cline sells ten open-weight coding models for $9.99 flat

Cline's desktop app placed #5 on Product Hunt on September 11 with 253 votes, pitched as an open-source app built for open-weight models. It runs multiple agent sessions at once and can pick up work handed off from Claude Code and Codex. Desktop version 0.0.25 arrived around September 10, and the Apache-2.0 repo has climbed to 67,875 stars.

The app is free. The subscription behind it is the news. ClinePass costs $9.99 a month and covers ten models across six labs: GLM-5.2, Kimi K2.7 Code, Kimi K2.6, DeepSeek V4 Pro, DeepSeek V4 Flash, MiMo V2.5, MiMo V2.5 Pro, MiniMax M3, Qwen3.7 Max, and Qwen3.7 Plus. Subscribers get two to five times Cline's standard API rate limits on top of that.

Ten bucks a month for a coding agent with ten models on tap is a different offer than a metered API bill that can run past that in a single afternoon of heavy tool use. Cline isn't charging for one model, it's charging for a harness that lets you swap between six labs' output and see which one actually finishes your task.

The bet is that open-weight coding models have closed enough of the gap that the harness matters more than any single lab's frontier checkpoint. If GLM-5.2 or Kimi K2.7 can't hold up against Claude Code or Codex on real repos, ClinePass is a cheap way to route around a slow or expensive session, not a replacement for one. Worth watching whether Cline publishes any head-to-head numbers on task completion, because right now the pitch rests on rate limits and price, not benchmarked output quality.
